Bugri Naabu Joins NPP race

Daniel Bugri Naabu, an Accra-based businessman, has for the third time expressed his interest in leading the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern Region.

The aspirant who lost marginally to incumbent Alhaji Haruna Tia (Harunbees) during the last regional delegates congress of the party, believes, “the time is ripe for me to now ascend the position having been rejected twice by delegates.”

His emergence brings to four, the number of contenders for the NPP Chair in the region including Dr Clifford Braimah, its current secretary and Alhaji Rufai Iddi, its 1st vice.

Mr Naabu told DAILY GUIDE that though he announced his bid a little late this time round, he was optimistic of winning.

According to him, he believes in redoubling the efforts and success of the party hence the need to lead and provide the best of leadership.

He told the paper that the current political stance in the region required an industrious dynamic leader capable of marshalling support from all angles to ensure that the agenda of the party taking over government in 2016 does not become a mirage.

“This is not the time to fan tribal sentiments and factionalism. Let’s get power and the rest shall be added,” Naabu remarked.

The task ahead, he noted, required a versatile leader who would be able to constitute a vibrant campaign team, draw practicable campaign strategies and be an inspirer to those at the grassroots.

“The Northern Region belongs to the NPP. Let us choose vibrant leaders who can champion our course in snatching the region for the NPP in 2016.”

In a related development, the Behisung Youth Association (BEYASS), a pressure group within the NPP in the region had rooted for Mr Naabu as Regional Chairman.

According to the group, “The NPP requires a strong team with brave and innovative minds to execute the Agenda 2016 which is aimed at getting the party back to power and Mr Naabu has proved to possess those qualities.”

In a three page press release signed by Adam Amin, the group’s secretary and copied to DAILY GUIDE, it warned that any attempt to circumvent the will of delegates through monetary inducement which would result in the election of inefficient leaders could spell doom for the party in 2016.
