Saltpond (C/R), Jan 28, GNA - The Steering Committee Members, Constituency Chairmen and Organisers of the Convention People's Party (CPP) in the Central Region have called on the national leadership of the Party to step down by the end of February 2006.
In a resolution, which was read by the Regional Secretary Kofi Aganu-Luvo at a meeting of chairmen and Organisers from the 19 constituencies at Saltpond on Friday, the Party called on the leadership to handover the administration to the Council of Elders. The resolution also called on the leadership to rescind the decision taken in Kumasi to dismiss three CPP Members of Parliament - Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom (Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem), Mr Freddy Blay (Ellembelle) and Mr Kojo Armah (Evalue Gwira) -- from the Party. It also called on individual members of the leadership to return vehicles donated to the Party by the Electoral Commission, some of which were still in their possession.
The resolution said the Central Regional constituency Chairmen and Organisers did not support the idea of forming a new Nkrumaist Party and suggested that rather, resources should be channelled into revamping the CPP. The resolution stated that the name of the Party, its symbol - the Red Cock - and the Motto, "Forward Ever, Backward Never," should not be compromised in the name of unity talks.
