...Allotey Jacobs suspended for using Mills` letterhead

The Central Regional Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended its Propaganda Secretary, Mr Ben Allotey-Jacobs, for illegitimately using the party's letter head in the name of Prof John Evans Atta-Mills Campaign Team, to solicit for financial assistance from some individuals and organisations.

According to a statement signed on Thursday by the Central Regional Secretary of the party, Mr Peter Light Koomson, the regional Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party considers Allotey's action a breach of the party's disciplinary code, describing it as "an anti-party conduct likely to ridicule the party."

The statement, which was copied to all regional secretariats of the party added that, the FEC had in its possession a copy of the letters written to those individuals by

Allotey without the committee's knowledge, requesting for financial assistance to purchase some equipment for the party to enhance its campaign rallies.

Allotey has therefore been referred to the Regional Disciplinary Committee for the case to be investigated according to the party's constitution.

In addition, he has been suspended form the party for a period of six months with effect from March 14, this year, until further notice.

Meanwhile, Allotey is to return all party properties in his possession to the Regional Secretariat in accordance with the party's constitution, the statement said.

When Mr. Jacobs was contacted by this reporter, he said as far as he was concerned he has not been suspended since at the meeting all the executives disagreed with the decision.

He intimated that the action was the decision of the regiona chairman and his secretary. According to him his predicament started in November 2005 when they supported different candidates in the NDC congress. He concluded that the regional chairman has been attacking him for unknwon reasons.
