Tamale, Nov. 25, GNA - The Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has organized a debate for aspiring parliamentary candidates in the Tamale Central constituency. Candidates who participated in the debate were: Mr. Mohammed Amin Adam of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Baby Madi of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Ibrahim Abdul Rahaman of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) and Emmanuel Mensah of the Reform Patriotic Democrats (RPD). Mr Inusah Fuseini, the incumbent NDC MP for Tamale central failed to turn up for the debate.
Mr Adam in articulating his vision for the constituency said, his main objective was to reduce poverty and that he would do this through education, especially the girl-child education. He said Tamale was a major livestock producer and he would collaborate with the Metropolitan Assembly to establish a livestock market that would serve the entire country and also bring in livestock from neighbouring Burkina-Faso, Niger and Mali.
Mr. Adam who is also the Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive said he would work hard to woo investors to build industries to undertake the agro-processing of food products, which are largely expected to increase with the intervention of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA). Talking about his vision for people's with disabilities he said he would ensure their integration into society and also fight against their social stigmatisation.
Mr Adam said he would also ensure that they had access to public buildings and that the school syllabuses were structured to take into accounts the needs of the disabled.
Madam Baby Madi of the PNC, who spoke in Dagbani, said on her part if given the nod she would address the issues of poverty, youth employment and sanitation and also ensure that women had access to credit. Mr Abdul Rahaman of the DFP said he would establish an educational development fund for needy but brilliant students in the Tamale central constituency. He said he would also organize remedial classes for students to improve upon their grades free of charge, adding that, technical and vocational education would be made a priority so that more people can be gainfully employed.
Mr Mensah of the RPD said he would tackle the problem of street children by ensuring that parents were more responsible towards the education of their wards. He said he would ensure that the education of the girl-child was taken seriously with particular emphasis on the study of science and technology up to the university level. To attract investors, he said he would first ensure that the peace was maintained in the area by educating the youth to avoid meddling in chieftaincy affairs and also desists from political violence.
