Nelson Bediako Asafo, Convention People’s Party (CPP) candidate in the parliamentary bye-election in Buem in the Volta Region, has called on the Electoral Commission to ensure that the election is free and fair.
He said this would prevent dispute of the results as was the case in the recent bye-elections at Akatsi-South.
Mr Asafo made the call in a statement issued in Ho and copied to the Ghana News Agency.
He also called on the “security apparatus to remain vigilant to avoid the alleged electoral controversies that happened at Akatsi-South”.
Mr Asafo said transparent bye-elections at Buem would be an honour to the memory of Mr Ford Kamel, former Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for the area whose sudden death occurred on Christmas Day.
The four other candidates contesting the bye-elections are Daniel Kwasi Ashiamah, a Marketer, on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress, Adams Darko-Boateng, Teacher, People’s National Convention, Ellis Akoto-Ade, retired Teacher, Progressive People’s Party, and Alhaji Muniri, Teacher, National Vision Party.
