CPP elects parliamentary candidates

Accra, Oct. 3, GNA - The Convention People's Party (CPP) has elected Mr. Stephen Douglas Annor, an educationist and Mr. Stanley S.S. Sackey, a businessman as parliamentary candidates for Ablekuma Central and Ablekuma South constituencies respectively. This was contained in a statement signed Mr Jonathan A. Attoh, Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the party.

It said the General Secretary of the Party, Professor Nii Noi Dowuona addressing party members and supporters after the elections, said at this stage of the development of the country, the CPP believed government must play a positive role by guiding the growth of the economy to ensure that it was controlled domestically. He said the priority of a CPP government would be to create favourable conditions to enable the country to produce what was needed to provide a sound industrial base for the production of what the people would consume. "The CPP will also ensure that all economic decisions taken are human-centred and towards meeting the aspirations and needs of the Ghanaians."

Dr. Nii Gbobilor Fleischer, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Party, assured Ghanaians that the CPP had a large base of members who had distinguished themselves locally and internationally in various professions and were capable of leading the nation to prosperity. He, therefore, called on the electorate to vote massively for Mr George Aggudey, the CPP flagbearer to enable him to form the next government and Mr. Annor and Mr Sackey as parliamentarians.

Dr Fleischer reaffirmed the determination of the CPP to make the best use of the country's manpower base to develop science and technology towards the creation of an industrial economy, when voted into power. He noted that no country could progress without a clearly defined development strategy and deriving maximum benefit from her potential human resources.

Dr. Fleischer said a CPP government would pursue a vigorous national policy in the development of indigenous technology by actively encouraging traditional artisans to systematically supplement imported technology.

Mr. Stanley S.S. Sackey, the elected candidate for Ablekuma South, assured the electorate that when voted as parliamentarian he would work closely with the assemblymen in the area to find lasting solutions to the problems facing the people.
