Tamale, July 22, GNA - Mr. Albert Atutiga, Northern Regional Chairman of the Convention People's Party (CPP) has advised members of the party to remind themselves of the ideals of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, founder of CPP and help make the party a winsome one in elections 2008. He said this dream could only be realised when members do not sell their birth right to other parties as some members were doing in the country and that the situation was not promoting good governance. Mr. Atutiga gave the advice in Tamale at the weekend when he addressed a meeting of party members and sympathizers.
The meeting was meant to discuss strength and progress of the party, the party's National Delegates' Congress, party organisation at all levels and the insurgence of groups within the party to see how best members could help in their individual capacities to build the party in the Northern Region.
He said the aims, ideals and objectives of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, was to fight for an immediate power and not "a government in waiting" and that if members had self-inferiority in them the party would continue to be in opposition.
Mr. Atutiga said the party's performance in previous elections was poor and what was important was for members to remain committed to the ideals of the party and not for them to be aligning themselves with other parties or forming parties out of CPP, which will further make the party to loose its strength.
"Our numbers and membership are not even encouraging, that is why we want the merger with the PNC to augment our numbers. Its important for us to remain united and stand firm and work together to win the 2008 elections," he said.
Mr. Atutiga claimed that the days of the NPP were numbered and that the CPP was the only alternative to Ghanaians if members of the party worked towards winning power.
"One need not to be a Prophet to know that Ghanaians are fed up with the NPP and were looking forward for the CPP to offer them good governance in 2009," he emphasised.
He appealed to members to respect the party's Constitution and hierarchy to ensure discipline and beware of politics of deception, eschew pity rivalry and canvas for more support and more members to build the party at all levels.
