CPP pushes merger with PNC

Madam Samia Nkrumah, Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has appealed to members of the Party to support plans to merge with People’s National Convention (PNC).

She said the leadership of the CPP has taken into consideration the unique vision and ideology of the founder of the CPP and are convinced that the PNC is a true offshoot of the Nkrumahist family, and could partner to win power in 2016.

Speaking at a delegate’s congress in Koforidua to elect Eastern Regional executives, Madam Nkrumah said because of past mistakes, resulting in confusion, during attempts to merge with other Nkrumahist parties: “We are being cautious.”

She said due to past mistakes of not consulting enough, as well as the non-involvement of the rank and file of the party at every stage of the discussion in previous merger attempts, the current leadership of the party is seriously working to ensure that the merger would be accepted by all.

Madam Nkrumah said the merger with the PNC is not to front for any other political party like the New Patriotic Party or National Democratic Congress because of their huge following.

The congress was attended by party members including Dr Abu Sakkara Forster, 2012 flag bearer of the party, Dr Edmund Delle, Mr Bright Akwettey, Nii Armah Akomfrah, Ivor Greenstreet, Mrs Susana Adu-Amankwah and many others.

Mr Isaac Opare-Addo, the Party’s 2012 parliamentary candidate for Akuapem South was elected as the Regional Chairman.
