A student at Christian Service University (CSU) in Kumasi was assaulted by a group of individuals alleged to be affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region.
The student, reportedly a member of a pro-NPP group called TESCON, is said to have engaged in disruptive behaviour during a lecture by former President John Dramani Mahama, despite warnings from event organizers.
Security personnel subsequently removed the student from the auditorium. A verbal altercation ensued, leading to a physical assault by NDC supporters.
Police intervened and rescued the student; however, it is unclear whether the student received medical attention.
This incident underscores the need for political tolerance and peaceful coexistence in academic settings, especially in light of the country's presidential and parliamentary elections expected to be held on December 7, 2024.
Patrons of the event, including some staff of the university who witnessed the student's alleged rude behaviour, described his actions as needless and not reflective of the moral training the university expects from its students.
