Cadres in the Upper East Region have congratulated the working class and the people of Ghana for the relative peace and stability prevailing in the country.

The cadres as part of activities to commemorate 34 years of the June 4 Revolution, which falls on Tuesday stated that Ghana’s democratic credentials that is hailed globally was as result of the hard work, sacrifice and commitment of cadres to June 4, 1979 and December 31, 1981 uprisings led by Ft Lt Jerry John Rawlings.

The cadres made the commendation in the a statement signed by Alagskomah Asakeya Noble, the Regional Chairman of the United Cadre Front and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga.

“Some cadres loss their lives, others were maimed and others experienced broken homes with dire consequences all due to the commitment and determination to ensure that the downtrodden, the underdogs, the suffering masses, had a say in the decision making process and to clean the system of maladministration.

“We ignored all the odds and hazards to pave way for democracy, which finally came in 1992. We must admit that, there were some excesses which are understandable just like the American Revolution of 1775-1783,” the statement said.

It urged Ghanaians to put behind them all that happened in those years and forge ahead since they are one people with a common destiny.

“Cadres will resist any attempt by any individual or group of persons to subvert the 1992 Republican Constitution for their myopic interest with all our might. Our democracy has come very far and no matter our political differences, we must place Ghana first.”

The statement called on public office holders to ensure that honesty, transparency and accountability remained their watchwords since one day they would be called upon to account for their stewardships.

The cadres appealed to President John Dramani Mahama, to remain focused and not to be distracted by the Supreme Court petition case.

“Nobody can change the will of the people except God,” the statement said.
