Accra, Sept.8, GNA - The Central Committee of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) on Wednesday re-affirmed its full confidence in Mr. George Aggudey as the Presidential Candidate of the Party in the up-coming elections.

A statement signed by Professor Nii Noi Dowuona, General Secretary of the party said the Central Committee took cognisance of the fact that Mr Aggudey was democratically elected by 2000 delegates from all the constituencies who participated in the last National Congress of the party.

The statement said Mr. Aggudey has worked hard with the sole objective of improving the fortunes of the party for which the Central Committee expressed satisfaction for the efforts he has so far made. "CPP must be organized as an independent Nkrumaist political party which will not become a surrogate of any other political party," the statement added.

The statement reminded party faithful and sympathizers that CPP has not entered into any alliance with any other political party. It urged all members and sympathizers of the party to rally behind the Presidential Candidate and aspiring parliamentary candidates of the party as a bold step towards confronting long-standing problems of underdevelopment, poverty, ignorance and disease

The statement said that as part of its measures to boost the party's campaign and ensure victory during the December elections, Mr Michael Nunoo, Treasurer of the UK and Ireland branch of the party has been appointed as the Manager of the Presidential Campaign Team, with Kwesi Pratt, Jnr. as Acting Director of Communication and Mr Kofi Amposah as acting Director of Research.

It said so far, the party has elected 100 Parliamentary candidates through due democratic process and was continuing in the remaining constituencies.

It added that it was expected that the selection of parliamentary candidates in all the 230 constituencies would be concluded by the end of September.

It said that the party would soon issue a list of spoke persons for selected sectors to articulate policies and programmes of the CPP.
