Apam (C/R), Feb 23, GNA - The Central Regional Branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has cautioned Ghanaians against making callous statements about the fire that gutted the Ridge residence of former President John Jerry Rawlings.

A message signed by Mr Kow Anyanful, the Regional Secretary of the party, expressed shock about unguarded statements from some people and cautioned them to desist from adding that more pains to the grief of the former First Family were enduring.

It appealed to Ghanaians to regard the disaster as a national affair because the house was a state property and again the items destroyed by the fire could serve as important historical collections for the national archives.

"The loss of items is the loss of historical artefacts of the nation," it said.

The message said God should grant the Rawlingses courage to withstand the calamity and called for thorough investigations into the rampant fire outbreaks the nation is experiencing these days.
