Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia has slammed some politicians for rating their personal welfare above the collective good of the country.

He said for many of them politics was a game of chasing and securing power over state resources for the benefit of themselves, families and lackeys.

Togbe Afede made the observation on Tuesday when Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) paid a courtesy call on him at his home in Ho.

The Chief, who is also President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, said this posture of politicians represented a major obstacle to national development.

“Politics has been made acrimonious….politicians fight for resources rather than fight for the opportunity to lead,” he stressed.

He said generally black nations across the world are in squalor because of such uncommitted politicians.

Togbe Afede also condemned the tendency among politicians to whip up ethnic and sectional sentiments among the people and the increasing incidence of nepotism in human resource management in the country.

He said it is important that the right people get the right jobs.

Togbe Afede lauded Nana Akufo-Addo’s stand on governance that would create equal opportunities for the mass of the people, saying under good leadership Ghana and the rest of the black race should enjoy prosperity.

The chief said people should be bold to say and accept the truth and stop slanting facts to suit political party positions as “evil is evil” by all standards.

Nana Akufo-Addo said his free Senior High School slogan is not a fluke.

“I know we can do it. That is why I have the courage to stand before Ghanaians to promise,” he stated.

The NPP Presidential Candidate said he is poised to govern the country with a clean heart and that vindictiveness is not part of his nature.
