The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) in collaboration with the Office of the National Chief Imam (ONCI), have initiated inter-faith advocacy to sensitise politicians on the need for peaceful elections.
The two bodies, under the banner of “PLUS Ghana”, seeks to educate people to understand the various stages of the electoral process.
Evangelist Jimmy Markin, the Upper East Regional Chairman of GPCC, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra that they would also collaborate with the Electoral Commission (EC) and National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the exercise.
Evangelist Markin said as part of the PLUS-Ghana Project, the two bodies organised a peace rally at Bawku after a procession through some main streets with brass band music to highlight the need for peace.
He said as part of the peace rally, personnel from the security agencies, EC, NCCE, and representatives of political parties and other religious groups educated the electorate on the need for peace.
Evangelist Markin said the groups were negotiating with the leadership of political parties to openly condemn their supporters engaged in insults, and would appeal to political parties not to organise their supporters to infuriate the supporters of other parties.**
