Tamale, Nov. 19, GNA - Mr. Albert Atutiga, Northern Regional Chairman of the Convention People's Party (CPP), on Friday called on the fragmented Nkrumaist groups to "come back home" to recapture power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in 2008. They should join the unity talks among the Nkrumaist parties towards the formation of a formidable CPP as an alternative government for Ghanaians.

Mr. Atutiga, who was speaking to the GNA in Tamale on Friday, said if all CPP members agreed to come together there would be only few members left for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the NPP. He said Ghanaians are now politically mature in voting saying, "The people can now distinguish between truth and lies and will like to vote for a government of their choice" adding that, "The CPP is the only alternative to the NPP".

The Regional Chairman said the CPP was going to shock the NPP and the NDC in December 2008 to erase the notion that the two parties would be alternating power.

"Let the NPP and the NDC be deceived that they are the only strong parties to alternate power in Ghana. They will fall like the tortoise and break into pieces, which will not be easy for them to get up," he stated.

Mr. Atutiga said division, internal wrangling and logistics caused the party's poor performance in the previous elections and called for total unity and commitment to give meaning to the CPP/PNC's motto "Forward ever, with Honest Service" to ensure victory in the 2008 elections.

The 50-year-old educationist who replaced Alhaji Issah Mobila as Chairman said the top hierarchy of the CPP attached great importance to the fight to win power, adding that, there was no way power would elude the CPP this time.

He said he would embark on a tour of the three regions in the northern part of the country to explain the vision and strategies of the party to win power to the people at the grassroots and appealed to the other members of the leadership not to rest until CPP won power. 19 Nov 05
