The 2024 Running Mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Energy Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has urged executives of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) — the party’s student wing — in the Ashanti Region to stay true to the movement’s founding ideals of service, sacrifice, and conviction.

Dr Prempeh, affectionately known as Napo, recounted his own journey with the NPP as a medical student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 1992, when he helped mobilise students for the party’s first visit to campus.

Again, he also led university students to embark on a nationwide campaign for the then Presidential flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Prof Albert Adu Boahen in 1992 .

Dr Prempeh reiterated that what began as a student-led effort driven by passion and belief in the NPP’s ideals evolved into TESCON, which has since become the intellectual and ideological backbone of the party.

“After that first event, a group of us continued to organise and campaign for the party across the country, not for recognition or reward, but out of pure conviction and belief in our tradition,” he recalled.

Dr Prempeh reminded the TESCON executives of the movement’s enduring motto, ‘Commitment without Inducement’, stressing that it should remain their guiding principle as they serve the party.

He encouraged the current leadership to uphold the legacy of selfless service that has defined TESCON’s history and to channel that spirit into rebuilding and strengthening the NPP for future success.

“The spirit of service and sacrifice that built TESCON must continue to inspire you,” he said. “It is that same conviction that will renew our party and shape the nation’s future.”

Dr Prempeh commended the executives for their dedication and urged them to remain steadfast in promoting the ideals of the NPP as the country moves toward a new political chapter.
