Konkrompe (B/A) Oct. 14, GNA - The people of Konkrompe, a farming community in Nkoranza district have petitioned the National Electoral Commission to convert the community into an electoral area so they could elect an Assembly Member to lead them to undertake development programmes.

The community is joined to Senya as one electoral area under Nkoranza District Assembly.

Mr. Daniel Kwame Danso, Chairman of the Unit Committee said at a press conference that no Assembly Member had been elected in the area since the inception of the District Assembly. He said this was in spite of the eagerness and determination of the youth to contest in elections.

"Anytime two candidates from the area contested in elections, the candidate from Senya emerged victorious because of its high population", he added.

Mr. Danso noted that leaders in the two communities resolved to rotate the seat of the Assembly Member to ensure that each community would get a representation at the Assembly.

He said this arrangement was aborted by the people of Senya during the elections in 2002 as they refused to adhere to the agreement and allowed the incumbent, Mr. Opoku-Amoateng to contest the election, which he easily won because of their population.

"For a long time now, Konkrompe has not benefited from any development projects as the Assembly Member would not even visit the place to know our needs so he could present to the Assembly for attention", the Unit Committee Chairman said.

Mr. Danso stressed that but for the efforts of the people themselves, there would not be any school building in the community and appealed to the District Chief Executive to liaise with the Electoral Commission to address their request so they could initiate more development projects in the area.
