H.E. Alhaji Said Sinare, former National Vice Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued a warning to party members, cautioning against complacency at the polls and collation centres in the upcoming 2024 elections.
In a Facebook post, the National Chairman of the Zongo Caucus Working Committee emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant and ensuring the party's victory.
"Complacency should not replace our watchdog role at the polls and collation centres. We must remain vigilant and ensure that the will of the Ghanaian people is protected," he said.
Alhaji Sinare's warning comes as the NDC prepares to face off against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in what is expected to be a highly contested election.
"We have worked hard to get to this point, and we cannot afford to let our guard down now. Every vote counts, and every polling station matters. Aside from the agents, we must ensure that we voluntarily make ourselves present at every polling station and collation center across the country to protect the will of the people," he said.
The NDC's Zongo President stated that his warning is particularly relevant in light of concerns over electoral malpractice and voter suppression.
He noted that the NDC has long been critical of the Electoral Commission's handling of elections, and his comments reflect the party's ongoing concerns.
The former Vice Chairman also emphasized the need for party unity and discipline, urging members to prioritize the party's success over personal interests.
"We must work together to achieve victory. We cannot afford to let selfish and greedy behaviour undermine our chances," he said.
Alhaji Sinare's comments have been welcomed by party members, who see his warning as a timely reminder of the importance of vigilance in the upcoming elections.
As the NDC prepares to face off against the NPP, Alhaji Sinare's message is clear: the party must remain vigilant and united if it is to emerge victorious.
In a related development, Alhaji Sinare has also expressed his support for John Dramani Mahama's 2024 presidential bid, describing the former president as the "best candidate" for the job.
"John Mahama has the experience and leadership skills necessary to lead our country forward. We must rally behind him and ensure his victory; he appeals to the Muslim community," he stated.
Alhaji Sinare also noted that the NDC shall settle any pending outstanding electoral issues at the polling stations, not at the court.
"Spread the word: It is imperative to settle any pending outstanding electoral issues at the polling stations through super-monitoring of the ballot box at the polling stations rather than going to court," he added.
