Kumasi, Nov 22, GNA - Mr Emmanuel Nti-Fordjour, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has asked supporters of the party in Ashanti not to let the impending regional delegates' congress divide them.

He pointed out that backbiting, hatred and insults currently prevailing in the party will not solve their problems but would rather do a lot of damage to the party.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on the impending regional delegates' congress scheduled for Saturday, November 26 in Kumasi, he cautioned some of the contestants who were using top party officials in their campaigns to win votes to stop it. Mr Nti-Fordjour said, "What the NDC needs now is peace and new strategies which would enable the party to win 2008 elections". On relationship with Professor John Evans Atta-Mills, the 2004 presidential candidate of the NDC, he said there was a cordial relationship between them.

"When my room caught fire and my properties were destroyed it was Prof Atta-Mills who gave me one million cedis", he added.

Meanwhile, 26 people have filed their nominations to contest the 11 positions in the regional executive at a delegates' congress scheduled for November 26.
