Convey inter-party meeting, NDC urges EC

Accra, April 18, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday called on the Electoral Commission to convey an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting to address the short fall in the preparation towards the district level election. The NDC mentioned in particular one camera for the photo taking in two electoral areas and to open the register at only one centre in every electoral area.

A statement signed by Mr Joseph Asiedu-Nketiah, General Secretary of NDC said; "we wish to put on record our Party's dissatisfaction at this turn of events".

The statement said the NDC wanted to put on record its dissatisfaction at the turn of events in which the Commission was holding IPAC meetings at the regional and district levels meetings including the NDC.

It said it found it difficult to understand the rationale behind the opening of the register at only one centre in every electoral area and to provide only one camera for the photo taking in two electoral areas. The fact that Public education on the voter's registration had not started even though the commencement of the exercise was only a few days away was also puzzling.

It said those matters were serious enough and demanded a thorough discussion at IPAC meetings at the National level to ensure a smooth take off of the exercise. 18 April 06
