Accra, June 29, GNA - Mr Abraham Kofi Asante, Spokesman for the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) on Thursday asserted that the DFP was not an appendage of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). "Our party is void of attacks and our ethics are very different from that of the NDC," he said, adding "admittedly most of our leading members are from that Party but that does not mean we have anything in common.

"We have our own distinct way of doing things," Mr Asante, who was the Former NDC Member of Parliament for Amenfi West, stated at a press conference in Accra to officially introduce the Party's colours, symbol and motto to the media.

The press conference was attended by Mr Mike Eghan, Former Second National Vice Chairman of the Convention People's Party (CPP); Mr Bede Ziedeng, Former Acting General Secretary of NDC; Mr John Amekah, Former General Secretary of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) and other political activists from the NDC.

Mr Asante said the Party would soon announce dates for its constituency, regional and national congresses to elect its executives but "as at now we are being governed by a Promoters Council." Names of other leading members would be made known in due course after finalizing its registration procedure with the Electoral Commission.

He described the Party as Ghana's 21st century third force for those, who wanted a fresh perspective and a wining alternative that would be positive about the future.

"We are determined to make the DFP a permanent political bloc of upstaging the rigidly divisive power blocs we currently have in the country with particular reference to the 2008 elections." Mr Ziedeng denied that the Party was promising the people of Domeabra free mobile phones as being alleged in the media.

"Our Party is not like others as the integrity of the potential electorate will be doubted and insulted if they are swayed by material things" He said any Party that engaged in those activities should not even be worth considering. 29 June 06
