Kumasi, July 17, GNA - Assembly Members have been advised to discuss whether to confirm or disapprove of the President's nominees for the post of District Chief Executive (DCE) with the electorate. Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, Former President of Youth in Action, an umbrella body of youth groupings in the Kumasi Metropolis, said such consultations were vital since it would pave the way for understanding and the ready acceptance of the results of polls by the Assembly Members.
Speaking at a forum of the Buokrom Believers Association, a social club, in Kumasi on Sunday, he said since the Nominees were going to work with the people, it would be morally and socially wrong for Assembly Members to vote on them without first consulting the people. Odeneho Appiah stated that in-spite-of appropriate procedures, most Assembly Members deliberately ignored the electorate and used their discretion to vote to approve or disapprove of the nominees. He, however, made it clear that the failure of Assembly Members to discuss the issue should not be an excuse for people to embark on demonstrations.
Odeneho Appiah urged them to use alternative means of resolving misunderstandings instead of demonstrations, adding that, such actions could not adequately resolve their grievances. Mr. Danies Asamoah, Secretary of the Association, advised the youth not to be content with membership of Associations and Clubs, but to use them as platforms for positive development in their communities. He said they should discuss topical issues crucial for national development and programmes to enable them to contribute towards nation building.
