Dismissal, Transfer, No Promotion: Mahama lists three threats faced by public servants who declare allegiance to NDC

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has stated that under the current leadership of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), public servants who openly declare their stance for the NDC face severe consequences.

According to him, declaring your stance as an NDC member and being an active public servant comes at a cost, as you might face the consequences of being dismissed.

He explained that this issue did not occur during the previous NDC administration, as NPP public officials were free to work in the public domain, something he believes has changed.

Addressing the NDC Professionals Forum, a professional wing of the party, during a cash donation of GH¢2 million by the group to support Mahama's campaign on Monday, August 26, 2024, Mahama stated that it takes bold and courageous people to join the NDC at this time.

"I want to thank all of you for your open association and declaration for NDC. In these times, it is not easy to be identified as NDC.

"It was not the same when we were in government. I mean, we knew several senior people who were NPP who were serving, and as long as they were doing their jobs, we did not bother about their political colouration.

"Unfortunately, this time, it is not the same. If you identify yourself as an NDC, either you will be transferred, receive no promotion, or, if you are not lucky, you will be sacked.

"So, it is not an easy mark of courage for those of you, especially those who work in the public service, to be able to come out openly and say, look, this is my party. I believe in my party. I am going to work for my party, and so I want to thank you very much," he said.

This donation was presented during the launch of the NDC's house-to-house campaign, an initiative led by the Professionals Forum aimed at reducing the incidence of spoiled ballots in the country's elections.

The campaign seeks to educate voters on how to cast their ballots, ensuring their votes count.

Mahama encouraged the members to continue their efforts in the house-to-house campaign, stressing the importance of educating the public on the proper voting process.
