Mr Ebenezer Aggrey-Fynn, Commissioner in-charge of Brong-Ahafo of the Electoral Commission (EC), on Tuesday emphasised that the district and unit assembly elections are non-partisan.

He warned that any candidate contesting the election, scheduled for March 3 this year, that would use a symbol, paraphernalia, name and motto of any political party in his or her campaign would be disqualified.

Mr Aggrey-Fynn made the comment when he addressed about 60 media practitioners at a workshop on improving the quality of information in the electoral processes at Abesim, near Sunyani.

It was on the theme: “Enhancing Participation and Stakeholder Confidence in Ghana’s Electoral Process,” and organised by the EC with support from the United States Agency for International Development.

Mr Aggrey-Fynn called on the public to participate fully in the impending election, and cautioned political parties to stay aside and desist from campaigning for particular candidates.

He emphasised that there was no room for special voting in the district level election and reiterated that the election was conducted free of charge.

Mr Isaac Asomaning, Director of Research at the EC, assured candidates of a more transparent process.
