Tema, Feb 24, GNA - Some aggrieved old executive members of the Tema West Constituency Branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have called on the leadership of the party not to allow delegates from the Constituency to participate in its upcoming National Congress.
Mr Osei Owusu, former Secretary of the Constituency, said the members were reminding the National Executives of a writ pending in the Tema High Court restraining the Party from using the Tema West Constituency Polling Station's register to conduct any election.
The other aggrieved old constituency executive members are Dr M.K. Antwi, former First Vice Chairman), Mr Francis Poribo firmer Organizer, Madam Christie Mohammed, former Women Organizer, Mr Richard Mills, former Youth Organizer and Mr Berima Amankwah former Financial Secretary.
Mr Owusu gave the warning on Tuesday when he spoke to the Ghana News Agency about an Amendment of the Writ filed on October 15 by Mr Kobina Ampia-Biney, a registered member of the Party.
A Notice of Amendment to the Writ was filed at the Tema High Court on February 16 on behalf of Mr Ampia-Biney by Mr Modesto Kpodovia of Providence Chambers, solicitor for the plaintiff. The Amendment seeks for "an order setting aside as null and void any New Patriotic Party Constituency, Regional or National elections in which the disputed Tema West Polling Station register of Polling Station executives was used."
Mr Owusu explained that the results of the National Congress to be held over the weekend in Kumasi would be null and void if the newly elected 10-member executive of Tema West Constituency participated in it as they were elected illegally.
He alleged that the new executive members were elected secretly even though the case was still pending in court. Mr Owusu said the Constituency was running two administrations made up of his faction and that of the newly elected executive members. Mr Owusu gave the assurance that should Mr Ampia-Biney win the case, his faction would do all they could to nullify the results of the upcoming National Delegates' Congress should delegates from Tema West be allowed to participate.
In the October 15th, 2009 Summons, Mr Ampia-Biney sought for a declaration that the alleged compilation of the Polling Station's Register by the Member of Parliament, Mrs Irene Naa Torshie Addo, and the Constituency Chairman, be declared null and void by the Court, because in his view, it was in breach of the rules and regulations of the NPP. 24 Feb 10
