A Pro NDC group, the Young Democrats has urged government not to interfere in the work of the National Labour Commission (NLC) and Fair Wages and Salary Commission (FWSC).

A press statement issued to Ghana News Agency on Monday said it was important that the National Labour Commission and Fair Wages and Salary Commission were allowed to work independently to enable them perform their duties diligently.

To this end, it said NLC and FWSC needed to marshal their forces and put in place pragmatic policies to solve the salary problem of Doctors to end the series of strikes by the doctors in the country.

The statement said the strike by Doctors was disturbing and most unfortunate saying “Ghanaians were becoming impatient with the inhuman attitude of Doctors in the country”.

It said the Labour Act Section 163 states that “an employer carrying on, or a worker engaged in an essential service shall not resort to a lockout or strike in connection with or in furtherance of any industrial dispute involving the workers in the essential service.

Again under the National Labour Commission Regulation 40, it is clearly stated that “A party to an industrial dispute shall not resort to strike or lockout during the period when negotiation, mediation or arbitration proceedings are in progress.

The statement therefore called on Doctors to call off their strike action and return to work to help save lives.
