Don't view Politics as a money-making avenue

Hohoe, May 25, GNA - Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister, at the weekend admonished the youth against making monetary gains their motive of joining political parties. "Discard any drive towards such motives and be informed that Politics is about sacrifice, hard work, dedication to duty and steadfastness," he said.

Mr Amenowode made this remark at the inauguration of the Saint Teresa's (TERESCO) and Saint Francis (FRANCO) Colleges of Education Chapters of the Tertiary Education Institute Networks (TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He said the government's "Better Ghana" agenda was on course adding that people could label it as slow but explained that a good foundation ought to be laid.

The Regional Minister said the Government's development itinerary for the region was unwavering and soon the President would cut-the-sod for work to commence on the eastern corridor roads and the University of Health and Allied Sciences. Mr Amenowode exhorted the youth to search for the truth always and chart a qualitative leadership course to take up responsibilities of governance and nation-building in the nearest future. He cautioned hard working officials of the party to be wary of a scheme fashioned by the Minority in Parliament to destabilize their progress but redouble efforts to strengthen the party's structures. Mr Victor-Hermann Condobrey, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, said the values, especially humility, that motivated Ghanaians to vote for President J. E. A Mills could not be changed overnight. He said a good foundation could support a super-structure and assured the students of the government's commitment to the general welfare of students. Mr Kofi Adzroe, Volta Regional Coordinator of TEIN, appreciated the role of the network in the last general elections, saying its structures would be strengthened to stimulate that enthusiasm in the youth for a resounding victory in 2012. He urged the students to be disciplined and uphold and defend the tenets of the party. Mr Wonder Boasilenu, Chairman, Hohoe-North Constituency, said the constituency was enjoying relative peace in the face of agitations from party activists in other parts of the country. He called on the youth to rise up against misinformation and mudslinging, which were gaining currency in the country. Mr Isaiah Agbemavi and Ms Delanyo Sapati, Presidents of the nine-member executives of TEIN at Franco and Teresco, respectively, on behalf of their groups, thanked their colleagues for the trust reposed in them and pledged to deliver.
