The Member of Parliament of Effiduase-Asokore, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, has faulted former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his party, the New Patriotic Party’s defeat in the 2024 general election.

Speaking in an interview on Oyerepa TV, on January 17, 2025, Dr. Ayew Afriye, who was the Middle Belt Campaign Coordinator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 Election, said that Akufo-Addo's actions helped fuel the perceptions that the president and members of his party were rude.

He cited the example of Akufo-Addo telling the people of Kwabre East, who complained about having bad roads, that they can vote for the NPP if they wanted to or not.

He also indicated that the former president telling chiefs to stand up before greeting him also created a lot of disaffection for the NPP, which ultimately affected their fortunes in the election.

“If you are going into an election and the president tells you, ‘Kwabre East, if you will not vote for me, it is your case,’ how do you expect the people to feel when he says this?

“At the end of the day, what the president did is unacceptable. Yes, it was unacceptable. And if you also look at an election and you ask chiefs to stand up, the Ghanaian people don’t like that,” he said.
