Dr. Stephen Amoah, alias Sticka, the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso Constituency, has said that the decision by the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama; and the party’s bigwigs to pitch camp in the Ashanti Region in the final days of the 2024 electioneering campaign is an exercise in futility.

Speaking to Channel One TV on the sidelines of the Special Voting exercise, the Deputy Minister of Finance stated that the visit of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the Ashanti Region in November has secured victory for the NPP.

Sticka stated that the president’s visit brought a new wave of excitement and hope among residents of the Ashanti Region, who now believe that the NPP government has delivered on its promises to them.

He stated that John Mahama and the NDC will make no impact in the region and that, as far as he is concerned, the Ashanti Region will once again come through for the NPP.

“Most people were thinking Nana Addo hasn’t done anything, but he came here a couple of weeks ago and we witnessed the number of remarkable projects that he commissioned. We were having edge-cutting communications issues, but it is better now.

“I don’t think his presence will make any impact. Look at the euphoria in the Ashanti Region. Six months ago, I was so scared, but now if it’s just the performance of the Ashanti Region for NPP to win the elections, then we’ve won already," he said.

He continued to say that “I can’t talk about other regions, but in the Ashanti Region, I’m telling you that it was scary in June, but now we are winning. Almost every shop in Kumasi that I’ve visited, I see the excitement and hope."

John Mahama has been touring the Ashanti Region as he seeks to whip up interest in the NDC campaign and secure votes for the NDC.

Over the weekend, he led a mammoth walk dubbed ‘Enti Asanteman Aseda Ni’ which drew thousands of people.

Speaking at the rally, John Mahama expressed shock at the numbers and commended the residents for turning out hugely for the NDC.

He stated that the massive turnout is indicative of the readiness of the region for change.
