An aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Miracles Aboagye, has clarified that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart has not officially begun his campaign to contest the party’s flagbearership ahead of the 2026 elections.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on July 7, 2025, he said that despite rising public speculation, Dr Bawumia’s recent activities have been focused on rebuilding and reorganising the NPP following the 2024 general elections.

“Dr. Bawumia has not even started this campaign yet. He has, since the elections, spent his time prioritising the restructuring and reorganisation of the party,” he stated.

Aboagye noted that the former Vice President recently concluded a nationwide Thank-You tour alongside the party leadership and has since been holding a series of behind-the-scenes meetings with key party stakeholders.

With just 12 days to the NPP’s national delegates conference slated for July 19, anticipation is growing over potential flagbearer contenders.

However, Aboagye hinted that Dr Bawumia may formally declare his intentions after the conference.

“We are looking forward to the July 19 conference. Most probably, right after the conference, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will formally indicate his intention or otherwise,” he indicated.

He reiterated that all current activity surrounding Dr Bawumia’s political future remains preliminary and not part of an official campaign.
