The Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive and Parliamentary Candidate for Tema East NPP, Yohane Amarh Ashitey, has stated that the brilliant and hardworking Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will beat former president John Dramani Mahama in any election.

He argued that if elections were held today, Dr Bawumia is poised to beat John Mahama even in the hometown of the former president in Bole-Bamboi,

Ashitey said Dr. Bawumia is considered a far better presidential candidate compared to John Mahama, who famously described himself as a "dead goat."

The Tema MCE made the remarks when speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the funeral of the late Madam Rose Gyekyebea Odoi, also known as Abena Rose, in Awukugua, Eastern Region.

The deceased, who was known for caring for many people, including Mr. Stephen Aboagye, the second Vice Chairman of Tema East NPP and a special aide to the Tema MCE, was eulogized by many mourners at the well-attended funeral.

Ashitey went on to discuss the outcome of the 2020 election, stating that Ghanaians were dissatisfied with the Akufo-Addo government, leading to a split in Parliament.

However, he believes that despite this dissatisfaction, Dr. Bawumia remains a more favorable candidate than John Mahama due to the latter's past governance failures.

“What the 2020 election results revealed is that Ghanaians are not happy with the Akufo-Addo government and that is why parliament got split, because some NPP MPs were rejected in favour of NDC MPs. However, when it comes to the presidential election, John Mahama lost by half a million votes because some Ghanaian voters were not enthused with Akufo-Addo but preferred him because he is far better than John Mahama.

“This same tired John Mahama brand power is what the NDC’s 2024 presidential ticket is carrying and from what we are seeing, even if the elections were only between John Mahama and Nene Ofoe Teyechu Agbadiagba IV, my hardworking constituency chairman, Nene would win hands-down because most Ghanaians do not want Mahama back,” Yohane Amarh Ashitey said.

He criticized Mahama for repeating the same mistakes made in previous elections and lacking ambitious policies.

“His policies are not ambitious enough, you would think that for someone whom Akufo-Addo beat with the ambitious free SHS promise, he would learn to also swing for the fence a little, but no, he is talking about an amorphous 24-Hour Economy that has been occasionally questioned.

“In fact, Dr. Bawumia’s superior record of success is admired by Ghanaians and even in international circles. He will beat John Mahama in any election.” the Tema MCE said.

The funeral ceremony was attended by several NPP officials, including Hon. Alfred Borkor, Nana Arhin Duah, Edward Baba, and Eric Arthur.

Additionally, Hon. Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, Greater Accra Regional Minister, and former MP for Tema East, Mr. Albert Boakye Okyere, Ashaiman MCE, and other respected dignitaries were present to pay their respects.
