Member of Parliament for Effiduase/Asokore, Dr Nana Ayew Afriye, has expressed strong confidence that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will emerge victorious in the 2026 presidential primaries of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Dr Afriye, who served in 2024 as the Middle Belt Campaign Coordinator for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, believes the former Vice President commands overwhelming support, particularly in the Ashanti Region, the party’s stronghold.

Speaking on OTEC FM’s political talk show Dwabrem, hosted by Prince Nii Ardey (popularly known as Dr Cash) on Monday, September 8, 2025, Dr Afriye said, “Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is going to win the presidential primaries hands down. The signs are very clear, and the delegates are solidly behind him.”

He stressed that Dr Bawumia’s influence in the Ashanti Region remains unmatched among the contenders.

“In the Ashanti bloc, which forms the backbone of the NPP, Dr Bawumia will win almost all the delegates. His message, humility, and vision for the country resonate strongly with the grassroots,” he declared.

Dr Afriye further urged party faithful to rally behind the former Vice President as the surest path to victory in the 2028 general elections.

“We are not just contesting for primaries; we are preparing to take power in 2028. Dr Bawumia is the only candidate who can unite the NPP and break the eight-year cycle of alternation in government,” he added.

The NPP is expected to hold its presidential primaries in 2026 to select a flagbearer for the 2028 elections.
