Dr Bernard Okoe Boye declares bid for Greater Accra NPP Chairmanship

Former Minister of Health, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, has announced his intention to contest the Greater Accra Regional Chairmanship position of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking in an interview on Asaasepa FM on May 6, 2025, Dr Okoe Boye, who is also a former Member of Parliament for the Ledzokuku Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, stated that he will no longer contest in parliamentary elections.

He revealed that his focus has now shifted to helping the party at the regional level.

“I will no longer be contesting as an MP. I’ve learnt a lot from participating in parliamentary elections, winning while we were in opposition and facing challenges while in government,” he said.

According to Dr Okoe Boye, his experience in both opposition and government places him in a strong position to support the party's efforts to reclaim lost parliamentary seats in the Greater Accra Region.

“I want to bring all the knowledge and experience I’ve acquired to the benefit of the region. That’s why I’m currently consulting with elders in the region about the possibility of contesting for the regional chairmanship,” he explained.

He continued, “So that I can apply what I’ve learned at the constituency level not only to support our parliamentary candidates but also to ensure we win back all the seats we have lost in the region.”
