Dr Kwabena Twum-Nuamah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) incumbent Member of Parliament for Berekum East in the Brong Ahafo Region, has retained his seat.
He polled 318 votes as against 125 by his contestant, Mr Amoako Frimpong, a lawyer during the NPP primaries held on Saturday, June 13.
In an interview with Ghana News Agency, Dr Twum-Nuamah said the first step after his victory is to forge reconciliation among the supporters to create a united front to work towards victory in the 2016 general election.
He therefore urged party members to bury their differences and work together as a strong party to defeat the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dr Twum-Nuamah said his foremost objective is to widen the gap between the NPP and the NDC in the Berekum East Constituency.
He said in the 2012 election the NPP polled 6,700 votes in the constituency and hopes to increase the figure to 10,000 in the 2016 election.
The MP-elect reminded the NPP members that if they take hard work, commitment and sacrifice as well as a unity of purpose they would achieve the 2016 projection.
Dr Twum-Nuamah entreated Ghanaians to have confidence in the NPP and give the party the mandate to rule the nation by voting massively for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the NPP flag bearer to form the next government.
He expressed gratitude to the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and gave the assurance that he would continue with his good works to retain the seat for the NPP.
On his part, Mr Amoako Frimpong considered defeat graciously and pledged his total support for the re-elected MP-candidate during his campaign towards the 2016 election.
He thanked the delegates for at least recognizing him as a strong force to reckon with by the number of votes they gave him.
The primary which went peacefully was supervised by Mr Eric Owusu, the Berekum Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission.
