The Ashaiman District Court has sentenced an 18-year-old driver’s mate to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for helping his pal to steal a wallet.
The court, presided over by Gabriel Mate-Teye, slapped the sentence on Gameli Tofah after he had pleaded guilty to abetment of crime.
The prosecutor, Inspector Nunoo-Mensah, told the court that on October 27, 2018, Tofah aided his friend one Kofi, who is at large, to snatch a wallet containing an amount of GH¢200 from Isaac Boabeng.
He said they snatched the wallet when the complainant was returning home from a musical concert organised at Sakasaka Park at Ashaiman by the dancehall musical artiste, Stonebwoy.
The prosecutor added that Kofi snatched the wallet from the complainant and gave it to Tofah, who maneuvered through the crowd and absconded.
The prosecutor said a complaint was lodged with the police, who later arrested him at Ashaiman Valco Flats.
He was subsequently arraigned before the court.
Inspector Nunoo-Mensah added that the police are currently on the heels of the other suspect to face prosecution.
