EC appeals to political parties to appoint educated polling agents

Mr Serebour Quaicoe, Central Regional Deputy Director of Electoral Commission (EC), has appealed to political parties to present well educated polling agents to represent them on Election Day.

He said it would be in the interest of political parties and the nation if committed and level-headed persons represent the parties as agents to avoid suspicion and doubts of the elections results.

Mr Quaicoe said this at a day’s work shop organized by EC for parliamentary candidates at Agona Swedru.

Candidates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), New Patriotic Party (NPP) Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Convention Peoples Party (CPP) and National Democratic Party (NDP) attended.

Mr Quaicoe appealed to party supporters to source information from EC offices instead of from other sources which sometimes create room for suspicion and other related electoral problems.

He said speculation could cause elections violence and that if accurate information is sourced chaos could be avoided.

Mrs Philomena Edusei, Regional Director of EC, assured political parties that EC had made adequate preparations to ensure free and fair elections in December.

Mrs Pauline Adobea Dadzawa, Commissioner of EC responsible for Central Region, said the Commission was ready to cooperate with political parties to ensure free, transparent and fair elections.
