Justice Joseph Bawa Akamba, Justice of the Supreme Court, on Wednesday swore in Miss Georgina Opoku Amankwaa as a new Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC).
Miss Opoku Amankwaa, a legal practitioner, takes over from Mr Safo Kantaka, a former Deputy Chairman of the EC, who retired early this year.
Justice Akamba urged the new Deputy Chairman to work with the Commissioners as a team to execute the mandate given them by the 1992 Constitution.
Miss Opoku Amankwaa expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for appointing her as the Deputy Chairman of the EC.
She pledged to work as a team member to execute the mandate of the EC.
Miss Opoku Amankwaa, until her appointment, was a Deputy Director at the National Commission for Civic Education.
She also served on a number of boards and organisations in varied capacities, including the Bosomtwe Rural Bank, the Public Service Union Centre and currently the Unique Insurance Company.
Miss Amankwaa was once the Regional Vice President of the Federation of Business and Professional Women in Ashanti Region.
She holds a degree in Social Sciences, majoring in Sociology and Law from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Miss Amankwaa is married to Mr Raphael Agyei, an educationist and has two children.
