Contrary to unproven claims by officials of the New Patriotic Party that the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission intends to skew the November polls to favor President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress, The aL-hAJJ has gathered Madam Charlotte Osei is poised to conduct the most transparent, credible, free and fair elections comparable only to elections in advance democracies.

Close associates of the beleaguered EC boss have been telling this paper how she has vowed to silence her critics by conducting an election which outcome will be accepted by all stakeholders, particularly political parties like NPP that have so far doubted her.

“Those of us privileged to know Charlotte and, keep a close relationship with her know what she is made of. If you engage her this day, the only thought on her mind is to conduct an undisputed election…in fact at the end of the elections, her critics will be shocked. They will even be among the first people to commend her for conducting the freest, fair and credible elections,” a source close to the EC boss told The aL-hAJJ.

Asked how the EC chairperson intends to conduct a credible election accepted by all stakeholders, the source stated that “if you’ve followed her closely, you’d realize that since she took over as EC boss, she has taken significant steps aimed at introducing some radical reforms …she has also launched the EC’s 5 year development plan among other things. I am not the right person to disclose some of the things she planned doing, but all I know is that she is poised to deliver a world class polls in November.”

Admitting that some of the EC boss’ reforms have not been embraced by all political parties and some stakeholders, the source said “the EC boss does not work for only political parties but Ghanaians, who are the majority stakeholders. The EC takes decisions that it believes is in the best interest of Ghanaians not what will make a political party happy. Madam Charlotte has so far conducted herself very well and the fact that one or two political parties have had problems with some of her decisions does not mean she is not working.”

The opposition NPP has since the appointment of Charlotte Osei as EC boss been a pain in her neck and have not ceased accusing her of scheming with the NDC to rig the November 7 election.

The latest to join NPP bigwigs fuming over non-existent electoral disadvantage is Communications Director, Nana Akomea who said the commission’s decision not to delete National Health Insurance Scheme Card registrants was because the EC boss is in bed with the governing party.

According to Nana Akomea, the registration with NHIS card has always been the "plot" of the NDC, and the EC interpretation of the court order exposes the Commission and the ruling party.

“Electoral Commission of Ghana has a plan with the NDC. If you could recall, our brethren in the NDC said their understanding is we’ve not said they should delete Health Insurance registrants from it; during the time that the Supreme Court made their ruling. So, the position of the NDC is that the Supreme Court hasn’t said we should remove Health Insurance registrants.

Barely two weeks after, the Electoral Commission says per their understanding, we haven’t said they should remove the Health Insurance registrants. It means the Electoral Commission is saying exactly what the NDC is saying regarding the Health Insurance card," he stated.

But associates of the EC boss have rubbished Nana Akomea’s claim, insisting that “Lady Charlotte’s main focus, now, is how to conduct a credible, free and fair election that will be accepted by all not what her detractors are saying. Like I said earlier, her critics will be the first to call to commend her after November 7 for a good work done.”
