The Western Region branch of the New Patriotic Party on Thursday called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to disclose the number of voter identity cards that it claimed were faulty and required replacement.

“The EC should furnish all political parties and the…public with the number of faulty voter identity cards nationwide and in the regions, constituencies and polling stations,” the party said.

A statement issued on the recent voter exhibition exercise by the EC and by Mr Charles Bissue, Regional Secretary, at a news conference in Takoradi said the commission issued voter identity cards to some people at three exhibition centres in the Kwesimintim constituency on the seventh day of the exercise although it was not part of the guidelines outlined.

He said according to an EC Officer at one of the centres: “There were errors with some of the Voter ID cards issued in the run up to the 2012 General Election, hence the decision by the EC to issue replacement cards as part of the exhibition.”

Mr Bissue said the HM Technical exhibition centre, the total number of deceased persons marked in the voter register was 15 but only two exclusion forms have been completed and similar reports were received from the Wassa East and other constituencies in the region.

He said in the Amenfi Central Constituency, there were no exhibition centres in some villages including Gyaba Nkwanta, Akyem Krom, Adedase, Hiamankwa, Agyadum, Dankwora, Kyekyen Nkwanta, Gyawu Krom, and Dradi Krom.

Mr Bissue asked the EC to educate the public on its activities.
