The Chairman of Energy and Mines Committee in Parliament Alhaji Amadu Sorogho has disclosed that he is also a victim of overbilling by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) following the implementation of its new billing software.
He said he has been suffering this unfavorable situation ever since the announcements of hikes in utility tariffs in the country indicting that it could either be as a result of human error, technical errors or a sabotage of the system by some faceless persons.
Speaking on the Ultimate Breakfast Show hosted by Lantam Papanko, he said the bills generated by the power distributer are unusually high, way above what was agreed.
“I am also being over billed. I have been receiving high bills for some time now. I am happy that measures have started to unravel the cause of the problem”, he said
He assured customers that any payment that has been done of which power has not been consumed will be refunded.
Alhaji Sorogho commended the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) for issuing directives for ECG to halt the implementation of the latest billing software coupled with calls by parliament for thorough investigations into the matter.
He expressed optimism that the 10-day period for investigations will unravel the cause of the overbilling.
