Editors Forum, Ghana, to organize symposium a peaceful election

Accra, Oct. 20, GNA - The Editors Forum, Ghana (EFG) would on October 31 organize a symposium on the role of political parties in the attainment of a peaceful general election to complement other initiatives in the country. According to an official statement signed by Ms Ajoa Yeboah-Afari, Interim Chairperson, the symposium was also aimed to afford presidential candidates the opportunity on a common platform, to tell the country what they were doing to ensure that the country achieved a peaceful Election 2008.

It said presidential candidates of the main political parties had been invited to speak on the topic: "Towards a peaceful Election 2008: My Party's Contribution; The Way Forward." Those invited are Professor John Evans Atta Mills of the National Democratic Congress; Nana Akufo-Addo, New Patriotic Party; Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, Convention People's Party; Dr Edward Mahama, People's National Convention; Mr Thomas Ward-Brew, Democratic People's Party; Mr Emmanuel Ansah-Antwi, Democratic Freedom Party and Mr. Kwabena Adjei, Reformed Patriotic Democrats.

His Eminence Cardinal Appiah Turkson, Chairman of the Ghana Peace Council, is billed to chair the function, which will be moderated by Kwaku Sakyi-Addo, a journalist. The EFG is a grouping of editors and senior journalists and it is affiliated to the Ghana Journalists Association. The symposium will be held at the Press Centre.
