Ekumfi District Assembly, one of the 45 new Assemblies that were inaugurated on June 28, on Wednesday elected a 29-year-old teacher Mr. Daniel Hammond as the Presiding Member.

Mr. Daniel Hammond had 25 votes to beat Mr. Joseph Antoban, a trader, who got 11 votes during a third round of voting in which one member abstained and a ballot was rejected.

The 38-member Assembly failed to elect a Presiding Member on the day of the inauguration as none of the contestants secured two-third of the votes of the Assembly members present.

Ekumfi District Assembly was carved out of the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly.

Addressing the Assembly, Mr. Henry Kweku Hayfron, Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive, appealed to the members of the Ekumfi Assembly to avoid suspicion and mistrust in their deliberations and activities.

He said: “Let us build the Assembly with trust. Be positive about a bright future for the Assembly,” and asked the members to work hard to enable the new assembly become one of the best in the country.

Mr. Emmanuel Baifie, Ekumfi District Coordinating Director, told the members that “as pioneers you would be called upon to make sacrifices when the need arises.”

He appealed to the members to ensure that all projects in the district were completed before initiating new ones.**
