A 10 member Election Security Taskforce for the Awutu-Senya East Municipality has been inaugurated with a call on the members to ensure peaceful, free and fair election in the area.
The taskforce, made up of representatives from all Government security agencies, Electoral Commission, National Commission for Civic Education, the Bureau of National Investigation and the Assembly, is headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Oklu Gyamera, Kasoa Divisional Police Commander.
Dr Adams Nuhu, the Municipal Chief Executive, who made the call during the inauguration of the taskforce, said it would ensure the overall security of the elections, peace at the polling stations and see to the smooth settlement of complaints.
He urged the members to monitor the security situation in the municipality and arrest and prosecute offenders before, during and after the elections to serve as deterrent to others.
He said since voting was a civic right, the Assembly would do its best to adequately resource the security personnel, the EC and the NCCE to embark on public education to create awareness on national policies and programmes.
ACP Gyamera, Head of the Taskforce, said it would work in accordance with the rules and regulations pertaining to elections without fear or favour to ensure a peaceful and successful election.
