On the back of a press conference held by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) also had a press conference on Wednesday, issuing several counter-allegations against the NDC.

Without backing proof, the NPP made various accusations of electoral fraud and planned acts of insecurity against the NDC.

NDC adopting violence in a bid to win election

Addressed by the National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, the NPP accused the NDC of a sinister plot to cover up an impending defeat by using violence to disrupt the elections.

"As we approach the December 7 elections, the New Patriotic Party is uncovering disturbing plans by the National Democratic Congress to adopt violent tactics in a desperate bid to intimidate voters and disrupt electoral processes," he stated.

NDC recruiting and training thugs

Henry Nana Boakye accused the NDC of embarking on the recruitment and training of thugs under the guise of private security with the sole aim of disrupting the elections, specifically in the Ashanti Region.

"Information available to the NPP reveals that several months ago, the NDC has been training thugs in pockets of communities, including Obuasi East Constituency, under the guise of private security training. These individuals are being prepared to disrupt electoral processes, particularly in the Ashanti Region, which is the NPP's stronghold," he stated.

He added that an NDC team led by Dr. Tony Aubyn, a former head of the Minerals Commission, had engaged some NDC small-scale miners in the Obuasi West Constituency to recruit some of the miners to be part of an NDC vigilante group, Eagle Force.

Payments to recruited thugs by leading NDC members

He stated that the NPP has established a link of payments from leading NDC members to thugs deployed to various parts of the country.

"The NPP is also aware of Mobile Money transactions directly linking leading NDC members to payments made to these trained thugs. These individuals are being deployed to strategic locations in the Upper East and Upper West regions to foment trouble as well," he stated.

NDC planning to use ambulances to transport weapons

Nana B also alleged that the NDC, as part of its agenda, is planning to move weapons from one location to another by concealing the weapons in ambulances.

"We have also discovered plans by the NDC to use ambulances to transport weapons to these thugs on election day," he stated.

Planned mass shootings on election day

The NPP also alleged that the NDC is plotting to orchestrate mass shootings on election day, especially in the party's strongholds.

"On election day, the NDC plans to deploy thugs on motorbikes to shoot indiscriminately in NPP strongholds with the aim of creating fear and panic to suppress voter turnout and disrupt the counting process," he stated.

COP Kofi Boakye leading plot to escalate insecurity in Ashanti Region

The NPP also accused retired Commissioner of Police Nathan Kofi Boakye of leading an NDC plot to engage in various criminal activities aimed at creating fear and panic within the Ashanti Region before and during the election.

"We are also well informed that some NDC members, led by a retired Commissioner of Police, Nathan Kofi Boakye, are coordinating efforts to escalate insecurity in the Ashanti Region and other NPP strongholds. This plan includes engaging armed robbers and other criminal elements to increase cases of armed robbery in the days leading up to the elections," he stated.

The NPP, while dismissing the NDC's claims, called on security agencies to take up their allegations to thwart the NDC's alleged plots.
