Elections tests Ghanaians political maturity

Kumasi, Dec 20, GNA - Dr Richard Anane, the Minister of Roads and Transport, has said the just ended general elections served as a platform for testing the political maturity of Ghanaians. He said as a beacon of hope for Africa, the international community used this to assess how democracy was growing and fast developing in the country.

Dr Anane said this at the 28th graduation of the Christian Service College in Kumasi at the weekend. Some 45 students graduated in Bachelor of Arts in Theology and certificate in Biblical Studies. He said the absence of foreign observers during the elections was proof of the trust and confidence the international community had in the democratic dispensation of the country.

Dr Anane appealed to all religious groups to be at the forefront of the crusade for sustenance of the peace prevailing in the country. Right Rev Dr Sam Prempeh, immediate past Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, commended the media for being circumspect in their reportage during the election and expressed the hope that such professionalism would continue to be exhibited at all times. He appealed to all politicians to stop the counter accusations and work together towards developing the nation.

Dr S.B. Adubofour, acting Principal of the College, said the major challenge facing the college was imbibing genuine Christian values in students and gave the assurance that measures were being put in place to help make these attributes a reality.
