Accra, Aug. 7, GNA - The Global Evangelical Church (GEC) has called on the Electoral Commission to organise free, fair and transparent presidentia= l and parliamentary elections in 2012, to ensure peace in the country. The church has also asked political parties and their supporters to conduct their electioneering devoid of insults and personal attacks. These were contained in a communiqu=E9 issued at the end of the 2011 Synod of the church held in Accra on Sunday on the theme: 93Step up Your Efforts for Divine Intervention."

The five-day event deliberated on aspects of church growth and national concerns and elected Reverend Dr. Edem Kwaku Tettey as and the new Moderator of the church for the next four years. The communiqu=E9 was read by Reverend Prince Tefe, Synod Clerk, at a thanksgiving service to mark the end of event.

It expressed concern over the moral decadence in society, and called o= n Christians and concerned citizens to partner government to fight against immoral acts such as homosexuality and armed robbery. The communiqu=E9 stressed that supporting government's effort was a sure way of protecting society, especially the youth, who would become the futur= e leaders of the country.

It noted the rampant occurrence of child abuse and illegal mining activities that resulted in the degradation of the environment and urged al= l citizens and foreigners to abide by the country's laws.

In a sermon, the moderator of the GEC Right Reverend Dr Emmanuel Gbordzoe, asked Christians to put their prayers and words into action, saying it was time to move forward in all aspects of life. He said even though Christians were confronted with predicaments, pain and hopelessness they would be able to scale over problems if they trust in God.

Rev. Gbordzoe stressed that by taking advantage of their little gifts and talents, Christians would be able to accomplish great things and attain greater heights.
