Ellembelle rejects DCE nominee

Stephen Donkor who was nominated by President Nana Addo two weeks ago has been rejected by the Assembly Members of the Ellembelle District Assembly of the western Region.

The election which was conducted May 9, 2017 by the Deputy Western Regional Director for Electoral Commission Mr Godwin Mensah Tawiah couldn't confirm the President's nominee.

Fifty Two Assembly Members voted and out of the Fifty Two (52), DCE nominee Hon Stephen Donkor secured Eleven (11) votes, 40 voted against Him and one (1) was rejected.

Speaking to the media, Deputy Director for Electoral Commission in the western region, Mr Godwin Mensah said the DCE nominee supposed to secure at least 35 votes to become DCE for Ellembelle District.

Before the election, DCE nominee Hon Stephen Donkor appealed to the Assembly members to confirm him for the betterment of the Ellembelle District.

DCE nominee, Hon Stephen Donkor left the Assembly Hall with unhappy face.

Some youths who claimed to be the members of the ruling NPP party attempted to attack the Assembly Members for not confirm the DCE nominee.

They blamed the Assembly Members for not thinking about the development of their areas.

They told the media that the Assembly Members who voted 'No' are NPP members; "we are going to support the National Democratic Party (NDC) in 2020 elections"

They accused their 2016 Parliamentary Candidate, Mr Kwasi Bonzo for sabotaging the DCE nominee; "Mr Kwasi Bonzo shouldn't try to contest again in the NPP parliamentary primaries like he will weep, we will vote against him", the NPP youths declared.

They also hooted at the Assembly Members who according to them are NPP members and insulted them. Those Assembly Members were highly protected by the policemen who were present there.

This rejection by the Assembly Members is unprecedented in the history of Ellembelle District Assembly.

Hon Stephen Donkor who was nominated by His Excellency President Nana Addo is the current constituency organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ellembelle of Western Region.

Present at the confirmation were the Deputy Western Regional Minister Hon Eugenia Kusi, Deputy Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Hon Paul Essien, the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle constituency who was a former Petroleum Minister in the erstwhile NDC Administration Hon Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Ellembelle 2016 Parliamentary Candidate Mr Kwasi Bonzo, NPP Western Regional Chairman Mr. Kofi Atta Dickson Nketia known in a political cycle as Kendicks and among others.
