A former Deputy National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says his findings indicate that Ghanaians are tired of the administration of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) under the leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo.

He believes the hardship the average Ghanaian is going through coupled with the high cost of doing business, the rising cost of living, fuel hikes and the free fall of the country’s currency, the cedi, indicate that the government which claimed in opposition that it had to enough men to deliver has woefully failed Ghanaians.

The former NDC spokesperson made this statement on Inside Politics hosted by Mugabe Maase on Radio XYZ 93.1 on Thursday.

“Ghanaians have missed former president John Mahama… they’re going to vote massively for him in the 2020 elections,” Agbenyo stated.

To him, the 2020 victory of Mr Mahama who is now NDC’s flagbearer is clear to many Ghanaians that “even Nana Akufo-Addo’s wife, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, knows John Mahama will win the elections.”

He argued that the NPP lied its way to power with lofty promises but are unable to deliver because they (NPP) are inexperienced in governance.

Recently, the Akufo-Addo government has come under fire for failing to stabilise the cedi and ensure that Ghanaians do business with ease.

Commercial drivers in the country have complained about how their daily sales keep dwindling following the soaring of fuel prices at the pumps.

Road Contractors, who haven’t been paid by government for more than two years, also fear their businesses will collapse, following the government’s reluctance to pay them.

“We have heard government doesn’t want to pay us because we worked under the NDC government, ” Stephen Attatsi, Chairman of the Association of Road Contractors in the Greater Accra Region told XYZ News earlier this year as he confirmed they have been tagged by some government officials as NDC members.

But Fred Agbenyo is convinced Ghanaians have regretted voting Akufo-Addo into power following the frustrations the hardship under the current government have put them into.

Some governance experts and researchers believe Ghanaians have taken note of the difficult times and will not hesitate to vote against Akufo-Addo if elections were held this year.

To this end, Agbenyor is of the conviction that the Akufo-Addo government cannot make any significant impact in the lives of Ghanaians within the months ahead of the 2020 polls, therefore the obvious choice for the country is former president John Mahama who is mandated by the constitution of Ghana to contest the elections.
