FAMP throws its weight behind President

Fri, 15 Apr 2011 Source: GNA

Takoradi, April 15, GNA - A group calling itself Friends of Atta Mills' Presidency (FAMP) has said President Mills is the right person to lead the party for the 2012 elections.

Mr. Victor Kojo Asiamah, the coordinator of the group, told a press conference that President Mills had achieved a lot within two years in office and deserved to be endorsed for the 2012 elections. He said 93It is also our strongest conviction that the future of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the country rests in the hands of President Mills."

Mr. Asiamah said the FAMP wanted to appeal to the former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings to bury her presidential ambition with immediate effect for the sake of the unity and growth of the NDC. "Her withdrawal from the race will save her dignity and her position in the party", he said.

Mr. Asiamah said the FAMP would issue a caveat to Dr Ekow Spio-Garbrah to desist from running down the President for his parochial interest or lose his dignity permanently in the party. He said the group is of the view that Dr Spio-Garbrah is an asset the party could benefit from but some of his comments about the President were distasteful.

"It would be of best interest to Dr Spio-Garbrah to render an unqualified apology to the President or face the wrath of the youth who are solidly behind the President".

Mr Asiamah said the group is not happy about recent comments by the founder of the NDC, former President Jerry John Rawlings about the President's candidacy for the 2012 election.

He said 93Much as we respect and adore our founder we sharply disagree with him and would not go with his assertion to abandon the President for his wife."

Mr Eric Kwaku Kyeremah, Coordinator of Takoradi Polytechnic TEIN, said the chapter was impressed about the level of tolerance in the NDC and expressed the hope that this would continue during the National Congress of the party.

He said the chapter would like President Mills to be retained to implement the second phase of the 93Better Ghana" Agenda. 15 April 11
