Former Deputy Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Obiri Boahen, has urged Ghanaians to forgive the party and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia due to the ongoing challenges.

The private legal practitioner stated that the party may not have achieved all of its promises, but it has outperformed the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He opined that Dr. Bawumia is a far superior candidate compared to former President John Dramani Mahama.

He admitted that there have been several challenges that have confronted the country, but the NPP, with candidate Vice President Bawumia, will transform this country.

“Dr. Bawumia is a better candidate compared to Mahama. He will be responsible, accountable, and credible. That is why I am appealing to Ghanaians to forgive the sins of the NPP and vote for Bawumia as president,” he told Kwabena Agyapong on the frontlines of Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM.

The failed sky train project and the National Cathedral project, he noted, are some of the issues that this administration has failed to manage well, and they have tainted the party. However, the successes of this government have been far superior.

“Akufo-Addo’s administration has outperformed Mahama. Let us not debate this at all. Akufo-Addo has performed exceptionally well. But we also admit there have been challenges, but that should not make us vote for the NDC.

"Forgive Dr. Bawumia. I am a very principled and candid person. To a certain extent, I also agree with Kweku Kwaku on the issues he has raised. If you go in for a loan and dig a hole or invest it in a national cathedral project, it is not a profitable venture,” he noted.

He stated that we don’t need to use taxpayers' money to build a national cathedral, and he was one of those in the party who opposed the project, although he was insulted.

“We need to be sincere and candid. Between the NDC and NPP, the NPP has performed better. But we can do more than we have done if we are prudent in government. The fact that I am NPP and in support of Bawumia does not mean I support everything the party does.

"If I say this and you are sharing positions and you refuse to give me any appointments, I don’t care. Generally, the NPP has done well, but we can do better. We need to be proactive and prudent in our ways. I will be honest in my presentation,” he added.

“As for Mahama, he is not an alternative. Governance is not about people who are not proactive or people who don’t think outside the box, like former President John Dramani Mahama. He does not think outside the box. He is not prudent and cannot be an efficient leader.”

Meanwhile, he has underscored the need for those who caused the sky train mess to be prosecuted for causing financial loss to the state.
